Yoga
In 2020-2021, I pursued my 250 hour vinyasa yoga teacher training with Carl Faure and Calli Popham - in both Hackney and Southern Spain.
I am so delighted I got to practice and learn with these 2 curious and wonderful souls. They taught me to experiment and play with yoga, not how to “do” yoga.
I taught a bit to friends & fam, but mostly I developed my practice through this experience. Every so often it’s fun to flex my teaching skills again!
Also for fun I’ll share the 5 principles of my practice which I wrote back then…
Freedom
I'm not too prescriptive. I like to leave space in sessions for yogis to explore their own bodies, feeling into the movements that are right for them, and finding what they need in the moment. I don't want to teach people how to make shapes, I want to help people become more embodied.
Play
Yoga is not a competition, and levity is one of the best ways to create an inclusive environment where everybody feels comfortable in their bodies. And it's much more enjoyable and rewarding to practice with a smile on our faces and the occasional giggle.
Strength
Yoga helps us develop strength in our bodies (and minds). I like to put a particular emphasis on functional strength with longer holds and balances. This is not strength for big muscles and looking good, this is strength to help us move better and get more out of our bodies.
Creativity
My yoga is inspired by my passion for dance. I like to find moments of flow in a session, getting out of our pre frontal cortex - our thinking and processing mind. I find that we achieve this when we are moving creatively and intuitively.
Calm
Many people are drawn to yoga because it helps us down regulate our nervous systems, which is what we need in our modern lives of chronic stress from pace, pressure and pollution. My classes aim to be physically challenging and sweaty, with a slow, calm and supportive energy.
